A morning with Wing N Fin

How a hunt generally goes, for first-timers and parents who want to know what to expect.

  1. Before the hunt

We talk through dates, your group, experience, and gear so nothing is a surprise.

  2. Meeting up

You meet your guide at an agreed spot before first light.

  3. Safety briefing

Muzzles, zones of fire, and how the dog works. Short, and the same every time.

  4. Setting up

The spread is already out. You settle in while the sky starts to change.

  5. The hunt

Your guide calls the birds and calls the shots. You shoot.

  6. Retriever work

The dog does the wet work and brings every bird to hand.

Payment and policies.

The short version: pay to hold the date, give us a week's notice if plans change, and the weather is part of the deal.

Booking and payment

Payment is required to confirm your hunt. Your date is not held until payment is received.

Cancellations
  • 14 or more days before your hunt: full refund, or a credit toward another date this season.
  • 7 to 13 days before: credit toward another date this season. No cash refund.
  • Less than 7 days before, or no-show: payment is non-refundable. You're welcome to send someone in your place.
Weather

Waterfowl hunting happens in cold, wind, rain, and snow, and some of the best mornings are the worst weather. Hunts go on in normal hunting conditions. If your guide cancels for unsafe conditions (lightning, dangerous wind, ice, flooding, or road closures) or for a regulatory or area closure, you'll be offered a new date or a full refund.

Rescheduling
  • One free reschedule with at least 7 days' notice, based on availability.
  • Rescheduled hunts must take place within the same season.
  • Requests with less than 7 days' notice follow the cancellation policy above.
Groups

Group bookings are held with full-group payment. If members drop out, the cancellation policy applies to each spot. Transfers to another hunter are allowed anytime.

Before the morning

  1. Book early. Tell us your dates, your group, and how much you have hunted.
  2. Sort your license and stamps before the morning, not the night before.
  3. If you are new, say so. We plan the morning around it and nobody minds.
  4. Shoot a round of clays if it has been a while.
  5. Sleep. The alarm is early.

Questions.

I have never hunted waterfowl. Is that a problem?

No. New hunters are welcome and we are glad to have them. Tell us when you book and we will plan the morning around it.

Do I need my own gear?

Bring what you have. All equipment is provided if you need it.

What do I need to bring for sure?

Your hunting license and the waterfowl stamp(s) required where we hunt. Those are yours to hold.

How do I book?

Send the inquiry form or call a guide. We confirm the date once payment is in.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes. Youth age 16 and under hunt at the lower rate, and dove is a good first morning. Tell us ages when you book so the safety briefing fits.

How many people can hunt together?

Groups of five or more hunt at $275 per hunter. Tell us the headcount and we will plan the morning around it.

What happens if the weather turns?

Hunts go on in normal hunting conditions, and some of the best mornings are the worst weather. If your guide cancels for unsafe conditions or a closure, you get a new date or a full refund.

Where do we meet?

You will get the hunting location and time from your guide after you book.

Ready when you are.

Send your dates and your group. We confirm the morning once payment is in.
